This YouTube video records Wayne Nielsen's remarks in tribute to Coach Muenter during the October 2009 40th reunion gathering:

From Cliff Nancarrow:
Dear friends,
I don't use the term "legend" lightly. But in this case I believe it falls short of the mark. A remarkable coach and educator.
Best,
Cliff

From Reid Dabney:
Ive been thinking about Coach Muenter a lot since seeing the news of his passing.  When we had our 40th PHS reunion in 2009, fellow classmate, Mark Gundert, and I went to see him for lunch at an assisted living facility in Walnut Creek.  He was just as physically vital as he was in our day at the school and he was still pretty frisky -- the attendants had numerous stories for us of what a terror he was to the female boarders while we were waiting for him to come downstairs.  Unfortunately, his memory was pretty bad and Im glad we thought to bring along one of our old Clan-O-Logs to jog his recollection.  He had some great stories once we got him focused on the late 60s and his days scouting for the 49ers.
Every guy in our class knew Coach Muenter because he was not only the Varsity Football Coach, but he was also a very visible PE instructor who walked all the guys through fairly rigorous workouts.  Many of the less athletic boys didnt think they could climb the 30 foot rope suspended from the gym ceiling or run a mile in a personal-best time, but the Coach had a way of making each and every kid seem special in his eyes.  As long as you tried, he was there to encourage you every step of the way.  He never showed favorites; each individual was an equal in his eyes (or, at least he made you feel that way).  For many of the boys, he was one of their primary role models and father figures growing up.  He will be missed by many of us.

Thank you, Ann.  I hadn't heard of his passing.  Now, my brother Don, will have someone to tell football war stories with, and will know if Don tries to embellish!
